The Whittington Chimes

The enchanting story of the Whittington chimes is that
they rang in the Church of St. Mary Le Bow in Cheapside, London
in the 16th century, and one day were heard by the legendary
poor boy, Dick Whittington, as he sought to run away to escape
his drudgery as an ill-treated house boy. He is said to have
heard the chimes and thought they said to him:

Turn again, Whittington
Lord Mayor of Londontown.

So back he went to persist and find his fortune
and eventually become Lord Mayor.
